The questions that come up most often, each pointing to the page that covers it in full - and how to reach a person when the answer is not here.

Reaching support

Write to support@thehip.app for anything to do with access, accounts, data, or tools. The platform also has feedback forms if you would rather leave a comment than send an email.

Getting in

I have an EBRAINS account. Why can I still not log in?

An EBRAINS account is the prerequisite, not the access itself. You also need HIP accreditation, which is requested separately and granted by the HIP team. See Request access.

What do I need to send when I request access?

Your name and the participating institution you are requesting access under - that is all the HIP team needs to start. See Request access.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in your browser, including the analysis tools. The one exception is uploading very large datasets, where a desktop sync client is more reliable than the browser.

My institution is not one of the participating centres. Can I still get access?

Ask. Access is open to people with a legitimate research interest, in Europe and beyond, but your affiliation is checked as part of the request - so say who you are and what you intend to work on when you write to support@thehip.app.

Bringing data

Can I upload data as soon as I have an account?

Not quite. A Data Transfer Agreement has to be signed between your institution and CHUV before any data moves, and your recordings have to be de-identified at your institution first. Start the agreement early - it takes longer than the account does. See How it works.

Does the platform convert my data to BIDS automatically?

No. Conversion is a step you carry out, using the platform's BIDS importer. That is deliberate: it keeps you in control of how your data is organized and annotated. See Working with BIDS-iEEG.

What am I allowed to upload?

iEEG recordings and what is needed to interpret them - the neuroimaging used for electrode localization, the clinical data the research depends on, and research data from the studies themselves. Data unconnected to an approved iEEG project does not belong on the platform. See Upload iEEG data.

Who is responsible for the data I upload?

You are. Uploading data makes you its data controller: responsible for it having been properly de-identified, and for it being used within the terms it was collected under. See How it works.

Working and sharing

Can my colleagues see what is in my personal workspace?

No. A personal workspace is private to you, including from people at your own institution. Data becomes visible to others only when you deliberately share it with a project. See Share data with your project.

Can I withdraw data I have shared with a project?

Yes. You remain its data controller, and you can remove it at any time. Anything published from the project also needs your agreement.

Will my work still be there when I come back?

Work saved into the workspace persists. Files left inside a running application are not necessarily kept once it closes, so save into the workspace as you go.

Can I take results out of the platform?

Yes, through a controlled export that a person reviews and approves. Nothing leaves automatically. See Exporting results in the CHORUS tab.

What happens to the data when a project ends?

The workspace is closed by the principal investigator, and what happens to the data it holds is decided as part of closing it. See Close a workspace in the CHORUS tab.

Tools

The tool I need is not in the catalogue. Can it be added?

Possibly - the catalogue grows on request. Write to support@thehip.app with what you need and what you need it for. See Applications.

Which version of a tool will I get?

Whatever the App Store offers inside the platform - several tools are available in more than one version, so you can pick the one your analysis needs. The versions named in tutorials may be older than what is currently available.

Not answered here?

Questions about the platform in general - workspaces, sessions, roles, security - are covered under the CHORUS tab. Anything else, write to support@thehip.app.
