The App Store

Guide

The catalogue of approved tools, and how to add what you need.

In short

The App Store is the catalogue of approved tools. Add the ones your work needs to a workspace or session; if something is missing, it can be requested.

What the App Store is

The App Store is the catalogue of applications available on your CHORUS instance. Everything in it has been prepared and approved to run inside the secure environment - you are not installing software so much as choosing from what is already cleared.

Versions

Most tools are listed in several versions, and you choose which to launch. New versions are added without removing the old ones, so work started on one version can be continued on it later.

Add an app

  1. Open the App Store

From your session or the dashboard, open the App Store.

  2. Find what you need

Browse or search the catalogue. Check the entry's requirements and available versions.

  3. Launch it into your session

The tool starts inside your running session - see Launch an app.

Why the catalogue differs between instances

The App Store is not identical everywhere. Each institution running CHORUS decides which tools and which versions are available on its own instance, so a colleague elsewhere may see a different list.

If something you expect is missing, that is the likely reason - it exists, but has not been enabled where you are.

Requesting a new tool

The catalogue grows over time, and new tools are added regularly. Anything that can be packaged as a container image is a candidate, so the question is usually practical rather than technical - who packages it, and does its licence allow it.

If the tool you need is not listed, ask the platform team on your instance.
